    Flashback

I LOVE music.  I went to a free concert in the park last night in Kennett Square.  It was Hoots & Hellmouth - they're an indie band from Philly - folk rockish - and they're amazing!  So much energy and so fun, not to mention great musicians!

Anyway, I was sitting there at the concert and all these young families were all around - couples about my age with little kids (that were SO adorable!).  I had a flashback to my own childhood - going to concerts with my family.  I remember being about 6 or 7 and spending a long weekend at a Bluegrass Festival - it was so fun - and I've wanted to go back ever since.  Tonight just made me want it more!  It seemed weird to leave the concert and get into a car and drive to my apartment.  I felt like I should've gotten on a bicycle and riden to my tent or something.  I look forward to being able to share some of these small experiences with my family some day, when I have one.

    Craziness

I realized something a week or two ago . . . I was reading through some old emails and found some that I had sent to an old boyfriend while we were together.  And, I have to wonder how he managed to put up with me for so long!  I was annoying and needy and obnoxious and I emailed EVERY day!  Wow!  I would have dumped me after the first day . . . but, he's a different person than me.  I guess I'm a different person now too - after all, it has been 3 years since then.

I'm definitely happier now than I was back then.  God is good.  He has brought some amazing people in and out of my life over these years . . . and I am grateful.

In new news - I'm training for an adventure race in October!  I've been running for several months now and I actually like it!  Now, I'm starting to add in biking to the roster.  Hopefully soon I'll be able to start biking to work at least a couple times per week.  It's 13 miles one way, so for me this is a big commitment.  But, for the adventure race I'll be running 5 miles, mt biking 10 miles, and canoeing 5 miles.  The whole thing is done with a team (my friend Adina is my team) and we have to orienteer it all - plus, there are added extra challenges that we won't know until we reach them.  I can't wait!

  • Back in the saddle again

It's been a while since I've written anything  . . . and now I feel like there are so many things to say!  But, alas, there is not the time, nor do I have the energy to say them all.

Have you ever been caught off guard with something really wonderful?  I was recently - and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I think about it all . . . but I will say for now - God's timing is so much better than mine ever could be!  And now I'm grinning from ear to ear

I've also been part of a group at church talking about evangelism.  We've had some good discussions, but more importantly it's made me more aware of my interactions with people.  For instance - on Friday night I was at a bar with some friends and this drunk guy came over and began talking with us.  Well, I say "us" but really me and one other friend were the only ones that would talk to him.  And, even we kind of blew him off, but in a "nice" way.  I woke up on Saturday morning wishing I would have taken advantage of that opportunity to really talk to this guy.  I think of the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well.  Jesus was aware of her felt needs in order to get at her real needs.  He listened (as if he didn't already know!) to her and, within a short amount of time (perhaps even just minutes) established a rapport with her - built a relationship - and was able to share with her himself.  Next time I hope I don't miss that same opportunity!

    Happy

Went to MI this past weekend for the first time ever - it was so fun!  There were 6 of us in 2 cars.  It was a whirlwind trip, but so worth the tiredness now.  We went out for a wedding.  I'm so happy we went!  Most of us are friends with the groom and haven't had much contact with the bride - but they're both amazing people that love Jesus and it was so great to see them start their lives together!

I hadn't been to a wedding in a little over a year . . . and I think this may have been the first wedding in a long time that I was just happy and not bitter.  Even when I've been happy for the couple in the past, I've still been bitter that I was single.  It was such a nice thing to just be happy and happy.

We got to stay with Rebecca's family on the way out for the evening.  We weren't there long, but they were SO nice to us and accommodating - wonderful people!  After the wedding we stayed with Wade's family.  His brother and 2 dogs came over, as did his sister, her dog and 3 kids.  We had a party.  His family are clowns (at least most of them) and we got our faces painted.  We had a blast!  They also did so many wonderful things for us on this epic trip!  We were blessed so much this weekend.

  • Amazing Grace

We sang some hymns in church this past Sunday - or at least parts of hymns.  I miss singing the whole thing.  I miss hearing the harmony in hymns too . . . I never thought when I was at Houghton that I'd say this, but I miss the way we sang there!
